Series of Attacks in Mumbai Leave at Least 125 People Dead
Closed-circuit television cameras that recorded some scenes of the attack showed college-aged men roaming the streets with automatic assault rifles and backpacks apparently filled with ammunition and explosives. In one video still, one of the gunmen appears almost giddy as he walks down the street with an AK-47 assault rifle.
In a speech on national television Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made the first official assertion that the attackers were from outside India, statements usually taken here to point to Pakistan. "The well-planned and well-orchestrated attacks, probably with external linkages, were intended to create a sense of panic, by choosing high profile targets and indiscriminately killing foreigners," Singh said. Some news channels split their screens to show the prime minister speaking and the ongoing battle between security personnel and the attackers.
The prime minister called for creation of "a central agency" to investigate terrorism in India, where some 44 bomb blasts in seven different cities have killed more than 150 people since May. Wednesday's assaults were seen as unprecedented, authorities said, in terms of the open, coordinated effort to lay siege to well-known symbols of India's prosperity and to places where Westerners gathered
Mumbai Terrorist Attacks
Teams of gunmen attacked two five-star hotels, a railway station, hospitals, and a restaurant famous for attracting tourists, the AP reports.
The gunmen specifically targeted Americans and Britons at the hotels and the restaurant, Leopold's. An unknown number of people were being held hostage as police raided the two hotels, the Taj and the Oberio. At least six of the gunmen have been killed since the attacks began at about 9:30 local time on Wednesday.
A Muslim terrorist group called Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
The government ordered schools and colleges closed on Thursday. But according to techgoss.com editor Dhananjay Varma, now in Delhi, the country's tech hubs are operating normally, and internal flights between Delhi and Mumbai were running as of 8am local time Thursday. International flights may not fly from Mumbai today, Varma said. Telephone lines are working normally and tourists are talking to the media from the hotels.
Varma said terrorists had not attacked outsourcing centres because the industry is multi-faith, and buildings are often better guarded than hotels and restaurants.
The head of Maharashtra's anti-terrorist squad is among 11 police officers who have been killed.
British citizens concerned about friends and relatives in Mumbai can call the Foreign Office on 020 7008 0000. Anyone in Mumbai and needing consular help should call (0091) 11 2419 2288.
The England Cricket team is touring India for a series of one-day internationals. The fifth was held yesterday in Cuttack, on the country's east coast. According to Independent, the tour may be cut short.

Snoring
- Mispositioned jaw, often caused by tension in the muscles
- Fat gathering in and around the throat
- Obstruction in the nasal passageway
Snoring Facts
- Snoring is made worse by alcohol or sleeping tablets
- Overweight people are more prone to snoring
- Sleeping on your back increases the chances of snoring
- Colds, nasal polyps and allergies make snoring worse
- Older people often snore due to muscular weakness that occurs with age
- Medications may cause dryness or minor irritation of the nasal passageways and increase the incidence of snoring
- A larger than usual uvula can limit airflow
- Injuries to the nose that result in a deviation of the septum may result in snoring
- Smokers are twice as likely to snore
- If you're overweight try to lose some of it
- Avoid alcohol and rich foods like chocolates before bedtime and eat healthy foods generally
- Stop smoking
- Try raising your head by putting pillows under it
- Sleep on your side. Some people sew a tennis ball on the back of their night clothes to help them
- Blow your nose before going to bed
- If you are the partner of the snorer you may seriously need to consider options like changing bedrooms or going to bed earlier in order to get some sleep. Clearly these fall into the last resort category and unless your partner does something about their problem this could be the start of a slippery slope so far as the relationship is concerned
Snoring is enough to drive anyone CRAZY! If you're sleeping alone; waking up tired and frustrated; or just plain fed up with a spouse that's constantly sawing logs then I've got a
treat for you!

Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Nasir dead
The 82-year old, who has been in exile in Singapore since his office ended in 1978, passed away after being critically ill in the intensive care unit of Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
He has previously suffered from kidney problems and the prospects of a recovery have been slim for some time.
Former Maldivian President Ibrahim Nasir
Ruler of the Maldives from 1968 to 1978, Nasir is credited with bringing about Maldivian independence. The country had previously been a British protectorate. Some hail him as a national hero due to his involvement in deals which saw Maldives gain full independence in 1965.
He is also credited with introducing the current school curriculum, modernising the fisheries industry and initiating tourism in Maldives, now Maldives' biggest earner. But he has also been criticised for human rights abuses and the use of authoritarian methods against opponents, such as a crackdown on a 1959 breakaway republic in the south of the country. As prime minister in 1962, Nasir sent a militia from the capital, Malé, to suppress islanders of Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo after they declared a breakaway state in the southern atolls.
In 1981, he was sentenced by President Gayoom in absentia for alleged corruption and planning a coup, but he was later pardoned. Nasir has been in retirement in Singapore since ex-President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom took power 30 years ago. President Nasir’s body to be brought back for state funeral , the Funeral will be held on Monday afternoon (24th November 2009). Following the funeral ceremony, a book of condolence will be kept open at the President’s Office, Government Ministries, Atoll Offices, and Island Offices and at Government Missions abroad. .National flag has been lowered to half mast to symbolize the national loss and 23 November Sunday is declared a national holiday following the death of Ibrahim Nasir.
